Honeymoon Travel Do’s and Don’ts, According to Real Couples

Real Couples

Planning the perfect honeymoon is an exciting aspect of your wedding celebrations, but it can also be stressful. Should you plan a trip to an exotic location or stick to a trip closer to home?

While the answer is personal to you and your partner, there are a few pointers that can help you arrange the honeymoon of your dreams. We spoke with three couples who had just returned from their honeymoons to find out what they should do and what they should avoid.

These couples are critical workers who postponed their wedding preparations at the start of the COVID-19 outbreak and were first highlighted in the Southwest® Rapid Rewards® Bank Cards by Chase’s “Honeymoon for Heroes” program in 2020. They were able to experience the honeymoons of their dreams almost two years later, thanks to the 200,000 Southwest Rapid Loyalty points they got as part of the promotion. Here are some of their tried-and-true ideas for making your honeymoon as memorable (and personal) as possible.

Do…..

Take Into Account What’s Most Important to Both of You

A journey that has something to offer both parties is one of the trademarks of a successful honeymoon. Whether you want to see cultural sites, dine at a Michelin-starred restaurant, or simply relax on the beach, your honeymoon should reflect both of your desires.

Making a list of your favorite places to visit is a good place to start. It might assist you in narrowing down your choices and deciding on the type of honeymoon you want. Then, to assist you to organise each day of your trip, we recommend picking a few activities.

Explore Historic Sites

Seeing local attractions can be a significant complement to your trip, whether you and your spouse are history enthusiasts or simply appreciate gorgeous surroundings. Exploring ancient sites was a highlight for Emily and Antonio, who live in San Francisco and decided to spend their honeymoon in Mexico last July.

“Visiting the ruins of Teotihuacán and the Museo Nacional de Antropologia were both spectacular because it makes you understand all of the beautiful things that were going on in ancient civilizations and it gives you some excellent perspective,” they add.

While your selections will vary depending on your trip, it’s worthwhile to set aside time to discover what makes the area you’re visiting special.

Opt for a Honeymoon Adventure

Honeymoons are also an excellent opportunity to try new things. Trying something new may take your trip to the next level, from parachute jumping to swimming in the ocean, and everything in between.

Kaila and Erica, a New York-based couple who spent their honeymoon in Turks and Caicos in July 2021, made the most of the islands’ gorgeous beaches. “A snorkeling tour we arranged was the most wonderful experience of our trip.” “We had so much fun together exploring the water,” they said.

Your hotel’s concierge can provide you with terrific recommendations for local activities and even organize your excursions. Checking out travel recommendations on websites like All Over Traveler can also lead to some wonderful discoveries.

Don’t……

Be Afraid to Think Outside the Box

We advocate becoming creative for a truly amazing encounter. Carrie and Paulo, another New York couple who met in nursing school, did exactly that last July when they decided to go fishing.

“At Robbie’s of Islamorada, we had the most amazing experience feeding the tarpon. A six-foot tarpon pierced the water to capture Paulo’s fish as he leaned over the pier with it in his hand! Carrie recalls Paulo pulling his arm out of the creature’s mouth just in time.

Getting suggestions from friends and relatives can come up with some unique ideas, and asking locals for advice can discover ideas that even travel publications don’t mention.

Assume You Need to Leave the Resort

If you’ve ever gone on a resort vacation, you’re aware that experts recommend taking at least 1 – 2 day trips while you’re there. While this is typically sound advice, if it doesn’t work for you, disregard it. When Erica and Kaila departed the resort for dinner at a restaurant, they discovered this to be true.

Kaila says, “We both wish we hadn’t skipped only one dinner off the resort.” “I don’t usually say this when traveling, but the cuisine at the resort was much better, and getting to and from the restaurant was a little difficult to manage.”

Another honeymoon “must” is finding economical flights, which can be made easier with the correct credit card. You may earn points that never expire and be rewarded both in the air and on the ground with the Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Cards from Chase.

With the expanded card perks announced this fall, Rapid Rewards Plus Cardmembers now have more options to earn toward future travel, such as 2x points on local transit and commuting expenditures, including Uber; internet, cable, and phone services; and select streaming purchases. Cardmembers get more out of their daily travel and spending for future travels with features like two EarlyBird Check-in® credits per year and 25% back on in-flight purchases.

Additionally, every point earned with the Rapid Rewards Credit Cards counts toward the coveted Companion Pass®, which allows Cardmembers to fly with a travel companion of their choice for free (excluding taxes and fees, which start at $5.60 one-way) whenever they purchase or redeem points for a flight. Companion Passes are valid for the year in which they are earned, as well as the following calendar year, so depending on how many trips you take together, the savings can be substantial.

Perfect plan for honeymoon and making the most of your time with your partner can be as simple as remembering a few basic pieces of advice. Above all, remember to rest, relax, and enjoy each other’s company—it’ll ensure that your trip goes smoothly.
